20: A complaint resolved by Local Intervention

Background
A person who had to go to court on a number of occasions because a garda failed to deal properly with the cancellation of an invalid Fixed Charge Penalty Notice (FCPN) agreed to have the matter dealt with through local intervention.
Action Taken
A Garda inspector met the person, apologised for what had happened and assured the person that it would be explained to the garda—and to other members—the correct procedures for dealing with FCPNs which should not have been issued.
Outcome
The person was satisfied with that and the case was closed.
