GSOC chair Ms Justice Mary Ellen Ring has appeared before the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Justice & Equality
The Chair of GSOC Ms Justice Mary Ellen Ring today (Wed) told an Oireachtas Committee that the cost of giving GSOC additional staff represents “good financial value” to the tax payer. The cost of the additional 37 staff has been estimated at a little over €1.7m per year while multiples of that have been spent on tribunals looking at the actions of gardaí over the years.
Ms Justice Ring was speaking to the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Justice and Equality which had invited GSOC to discuss what changes had been made on foot of the Committee’s Report on Garda Oversight and Accountability, published in December 2016.
