GSOC has publish its submission to the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform on the public consultation on the review of the Protected Disclosures Act 2014
The Department of Public Expenditure and Reform invited submissions from interested parties as part of the Department’s review of the operation of the Protected Disclosures Act 2014 earlier this year.
GSOC’s submission is available for download below and all submissions to the Department are available here
GSOC has extensive experience in dealing with the provisions of the Protected Disclosures Act 2014 and, unlike any other body, is dealing with protected disclosures regarding a separate organisation, in this case the Garda Síochána, while at the same time operating our own policy and practice under the terms of the Garda Síochána Act 2005. GSOC feels no consideration of this legislation and its functions were considered when drafting and passing the 2014 Act.
The submissions enclosed reflect this experience and raise a number of difficult issues we have encountered.
