GSOC welcomes the report by the Commission on the Future of Policing in Ireland
The Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission (GSOC) welcomes the report published today by The Commission on the Future of Policing in Ireland (CFPI).
The detailed report recognises the importance of independence when dealing with complaints regarding police conduct. It sets out changes which GSOC believes are necessary to improve public confidence in police oversight, many of which echo GSOC’s proposals for legislative change.
GSOC notes that the proposals for a new complaints structure are not dependent on other recommendations for change and that GSOC hopes to see the relevant recommendations proceeding to be implemented in a timely fashion.
GSOC looks forward to a period of great change in the provision of policing in Ireland and the continued development of oversight and accountability in the Garda Síochána.
