Statement in relation to allegation of assault, Temple Bar
The Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission (GSOC) has carried out enquiries in relation to reports that a staff member of GSOC complained to gardaí about an alleged assault in the Temple Bar area of Dublin on Sunday/Monday 9th/10th of December 2018.
The Commission can confirm that no staff member of GSOC was involved with the alleged events.
Further GSOC has not been informed by the Garda Síochána of the allegation of assault/sexual assault as reported in the media.
The report in the media and the allegation involving an off duty garda are of serious concern to the Commission. It is not clear where the source of the story that a GSOC staff member was involved arises from as reported. It is of further concern that, if the assault occurred as reported, the gardai have failed to notify GSOC of the serious allegation in this instance having regard to the oversight role of GSOC.
The Commission will make no further comment at this time.
