Statement regarding an expected referral from the Minister of Justice and Equality under s102(5) of the Garda Síochána Act, 2005 (as amended).

4:30pm 23-06-2016 – update to the below:

The Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission has received a referral from the Minister under section 102(5) of the Garda Síochána Act, 2005 (as amended) to investigate certain matters arising from the O’Higgins Commission.

We have written to the Garda Síochána requesting that all documentation held by them in this matter be sent to GSOC. We will commence the investigation as soon as we receive this information.

We are aware of the Minister’s intention to refer, to the Garda Ombudsman, certain matters arising from the O’Higgins Commission.

We can confirm we have not yet received such a referral.
