The Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission (GSOC) will continue to deal with complaints about Gardaí until the commencement of the Policing, Security and Community Safety Act, 2024. Thereafter GSOC will transition to a new agency Fiosrú – the Office of the Police Ombudsman.
The Commission currently has two members, Justice Rory McCabe, who is Chairperson of the Commission, and Emily Logan, who will be appointed by the President, as the first Police Ombudsman on commencement of the new legislation.
The Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission continues with full statutory authority to investigate complaints and referrals. This authority will continue without break until the repeal of the relevant provisions of the Garda Síochána Act, 2005 and commencement of the Policing, Security and Community Safety Act, 2024.
