Witness Appeal -Section 102 Referrals

The Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission has received five referrals under section 102 (1) of the Garda Síochána Act 2005* in the past five days, three of which came in within a 24 hour period. Four of the events sadly involved fatalities. GSOC would like to express its condolences to the families and friends of the deceased parties. We are also thinking of those still receiving medical treatment or who have been affected by the incidents.

GSOC is working to efficiently progress the investigations remaining conscious of the needs of all parties involved.  The Commission askes any witnesses to the incidents or who have information or dash cam footage that will assist the investigations to contact GSOC at 1890 600 800 or info@gsoc.ie.

*Section 102 (1) mandates the Garda Commissioner refer matters to GSOC that appear to the Garda Commissioner to indicate that the conduct of a member or members of the Garda Síochána may have resulted in the death of, or serious harm to, a person.
